The Lally School of Management and Technology New York was founded in 1963 as an integral part of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Building on a heritage of over 175 years of leadership in science and engineering, Rensselaer's Lally School is dedicated to advancing business through innovation. Our curriculum is designed to produce leaders who combine creative passion with the ability to integrate technology across business functions. Our faculty emphasizes the value of hands-on experience available through campus resources such as the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship and a world-class business incubator center. Rensselaer's Lally School offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs in management, doctoral programs in management and technology, an executive MBA program, and a joint Sino-U.S. MBA for companies operating in China.
How the School Got Its Name
The management school was named after Rensselaer trustee Kenneth T. Lally and his wife, Thelma P. Lally. Kenneth T. Lally has been an important member of the Rensselaer community since 1970 as a leader, an entrepreneur, a trusted advisor, and a friend. The Lallys' impact on Rensselaer is quite valuable. They wanted the school to be known throughout the world as the best of the breed. Lally, a successful entrepreneur who saved the historic W.& L.E Gurley Company (now Gurley Precision Instrument Co.), knew the challenge of managing a technological venture. To help the management school gain national prominence, the Lallys gave $15 million, which was, up until 2001, the largest single gift in Rensselaer's history. To honor the benefactors and to more properly reflect the school's unique focus, the school became the Kenneth T. and Thelma P. Lally School of Management and Technology. "I am confident that my gift will enable the school to win recognition as one of the premier MBA programs in the nation," says Lally.

About Troy
Troy,
a city of 55,000 people, is more than 200 years old. Located along the
Hudson River in New York , Troy was a major center for the industrial
revolution in the 1800s. It was the home of the detachable shirt
collar, stove manufacturers, textile mills, stagecoach and carriage
builders, breweries, bell manufacturers, iron and steel centers, and
more. Iron plates for the Civil War ship, the Monitor, were
rolled in Troy. Even Samuel Wilson, better known as Uncle Sam, lived
and worked in Troy during this time.
