| Study at Hartwick College
Hartwick College is a private, four-year, non-denominational college located in Oneonta, New York, United States. It was established in 1797 as the Hartwick Seminary. In 1928, the college was moved to the present location and was incorporated under the name of Hartwick College. Both of the 425-acre academic campus and the 920-acre environmental campus of Hartwick College stand on land donated by the state of Oneonta. The college offers a large number of courses, which are primarily focused on science and liberal arts. The athletics teams of Hartwick College are known as the Hawks. The official mascot of the college is a blue hawk. The students of Hartwick College participate in intercollegiate basketball, equestrian, lacrosse, tennis, football, field hockey, swimming & diving, volleyball and water polo. Hartwick is in a town not particularly near any major cities, in Oneonta, NY. The school is classified as a private, not-for-profit college. Students at Hartwick earn degrees up to the Bachelor's degree. There are more programs of study at the school than you'll find at most colleges of similar size. The most common major fields study at Hartwick include science, art studies, and drama and performing arts. The school does not admit all applicants. The middle range of verbal SAT scores in 2007 was 480 to 600 for students at Hartwick. While math SAT scores among applicants varied, those accepted commonly had scores between 510 and 595. One indicator of school quality is the number of students per professor, and here the school does well in comparison to most schools. Some professors at Hartwick are awarded tenure, allowing the school to retain good faculty members. Faculty salaries at the school are higher than most. Hartwick, in 2007, had 1,537 students (1,504 full-time equivalent). The school is not thought of as a commuter school, and many students live on campus or nearby. Dorm living is common.
