As a leader in distance education, Excelsior College gives our students access to more learning avenues than most traditional colleges and universities. That's because we know it's not realistic to expect busy, active adults with family and work commitments to drop out of life to earn a degree.

The Perfect Degree Programs for Busy, Working Adults

Excelsior College is an excellent choice for non-U.S. students who wish to earn accredited American college degrees without leaving their home countries. Presently, over 500 students outside the United States are pursuing Excelsior College degrees, including foreign students in their home countries as well as Americans living abroad.

Evaluation of International Transcripts

Academic work completed at institutions outside the United States must be degree-level study undertaken at a university that has been officially recognized as degree- or diploma-granting by the regulating agency for higher education in your home country. Your international transcript must be evaluated by an evaluation agency, approved by Excelsior College, that specializes in the evaluation of such transcripts. For your convenience, we have published a list (in PDF format) of acceptable institutions outside the United States that have already been evaluated and do not have to be reviewed again.

What to Do Before Enrolling

Prior to enrolling, you should contact us for the name and address of the evaluation agency to be used and for information about its current services and fees. The designated evaluation agency will make recommendations to Excelsior College about the amount of credit to be awarded and about U.S. equivalents. If you have coursework credit from outside the United States, please call 518-464-8500 and press the numbers 1-4-1 at the automated greeting. We will provide you with all the information you will need to work with the evaluation agency.

No Extra Enrollment Fees or Residency Required

Excelsior College does not require undergraduate international students to pay extra enrollment fees or to meet requirements that are different from those that U.S. students are required to meet. (Graduate students outside the United States and Canada, with the exception of students in the military with APO/FPO addresses, are charged an international student supplement to the annual Graduate Student Fee.) There are no residency requirements for Excelsior College students, which is an excellent benefit for international students.

Financial Aid for International Students

We are pleased to announce that financial aid is available to international students through the P.L.A.T.O. loan program.

International students who apply for the P.L.A.T.O. Loan are required to provide a co-signer, who will be required to meet the following criteria:

• The co-signer must be either a United States citizen or a legal permanent resident.
• The co-signer must have a minimum of three years established credit history.
• The co-signer must be employed and have an annual income of at least $15,000. (Debt/credit history will also be considered.)
