| Study at CUNY John Jay College Criminal Justice
Founded in 1964, CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college located in midtown, Manhattan, New York City. It is the only liberal arts college with a criminal justice focus in the U.S. The college is named after John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States Supreme Court and one of the founding fathers of the United States. He was a native of New York City and also a New York State governor. The campus comprises more than five buildings. The college enrolls over 13,000 full time students including traditional, pre-career undergraduate students and those pursuing master’s degrees in a variety of disciplines. John Jay College has a number of NCAA division III sports teams which are members of the CUNYAC conference. Their official mascot is the Bloodhound. John Jay is in a large city, in New York, NY. The school is classified as a public college. Students at John Jay earn degrees up to the Master's degree. Students and faculty are generally focused on one of the school's main fields of study. The most common major fields study at John Jay include family and social work, therapy and counseling, and security and law enforcement. The school does not admit all applicants. The middle range of verbal SAT scores in 2007 was 420 to 510 for students at John Jay. While math SAT scores among applicants varied, those accepted commonly had scores between 430 and 520. Some professors at the school are awarded tenure, allowing the school to retain good faculty members. Faculty salaries at John Jay are higher than most.
